Special Screening: 5 Years After the Great East Japan Earthquake
In 2016, 5 years after the Great East Japan Earthquake, the Japan Foundation Seoul Cultural Center and the Korean Film Archive organized a special screening that reflected on the huge tragedy. This event featured a selection of 10 films that provided a glimpse into the landscapes of the Tohoku region of Japan before the earthquake, depicted the resilience of local residents in the aftermath, and shared the heartfelt stories of volunteers who provided aid and the people who continue to live in the affected areas.
I attempted to imply the theme of the screening through the unstable arrangement of title letters, but more than that, I wanted to convey emotions of healing, such as love, the grandeur of nature, and hope rather than focusing on sadness, through the meaningful scenes from the films.
